Pet of the Week: Harley

Harley, a 5-year-old neutered tabby, is a sweet, calm cat. He is a champagne (or cream) tabby, known for its pleasant, easygoing personality. Harley has been hanging out with a female cat here at the shelter, and they seem to get along just fine. He is declawed, so he will have to be an indoor-only cat. Harley has had his FVRCP vaccinations and has been dewormed and microchipped. He will be available Sunday at the Atlanta Humane Society, 981 Howell Mill Road N.W. Adoption will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

Charcoal, a 10-month-old neutered retriever/terrier mix, is very outgoing and active, and he loves to play. He gets along well with other dogs. He is not yet full grown, but he shouldn’t get much bigger. He will benefit from structure and confinement in his new home. Charcoal has had his DHLPP vaccinations and has been dewormed. He will be available starting Sunday at the Atlanta Humane Society, 981 Howell Mill Road N.W. Adoption will be on a first-come, first-served basis. The society is closed Sunday for Easter, but reopens Monday.
Samson, a 1-year-old neutered retriever mix, has a lot of energy and will do best in a home with people who do, too. He knows several obedience commands, but he will need more training to be his best. Samson has had his DHLPP vaccinations and has been dewormed and microchipped. The humane society is open for adoptions 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday-Friday, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekends.
Slim, an 11-month-old neutered domestic shorthair, is a sweet cat looking for a playful family. He is from another shelter, so little is known about his former life. He spent time in foster care, where he lived with other cats and three dogs. He was a little nervous at first but adapted quickly. Like most young cats, Slim likes to hang out in high places, play with toys and be a part of the family. He has had his FVRCP vaccinations and has been dewormed and microchipped. He will be available Sunday at the Atlanta Humane Society, 981 Howell Mill Road N.W. Adoption will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
Destiny, a 2-year-old spayed retriever mix, is a sweet dog. She needs to be in a home without cats, as she finds them too irresistible not to chase. Like all dogs, she will need lots of structure, leadership and calm obedience training to be her best. Destiny is active and enjoys playing with other dogs. Sugar, a 3-year-old spayed hound mix, is a sweet, laid-back adult dog who perks up at the sight of people and dogs alike. She is a little shy at first but warms up quickly to a kind word and a scratch of the ears. She will do best in a home with calm owners who will provide structure and attention. Volker, a 1 1/2-year-old neutered pointer mix, was found wandering in Newton County, so we don’t know much about him. He is an active young dog and would prefer an active owner. Volker is a sweet guy who enjoys people, but he also likes playing with other active dogs. He will do best with structure and consistency in his new home. Pointers are intelligent, people-focused and full of zest, so make sure you have enough time for this boy. Come see if Volker would be right for you. Loki, an 8-month-old neutered shepherd mix, enjoys the company of other dogs and loves a good romp. He is still a puppy, and, like all young dogs, will need structure, training and guidance to be his best. He will need lots of stimulation and exercise. If you are active and like to have fun, Loki may be the perfect dog for you. It isn’t known how Loki is with children, so bring the family to meet him. He will need housebreaking assistance, but it shouldn’t take him long to learn. Loki has had his DHLPP vaccinations and has been dewormed. Stoli, a 9-month-old neutered domestic shorthair, is a sweet young cat looking for a playful family. He can be a tad shy at first, but let him come to you and he will be happy. Like most cats, Stoli likes to be high up, and he enjoys playing with toys. He is affectionate and curious, likes to give hugs and would enjoy a nice window seat where he can watch the world go by safely from indoors. Marley, a 2-year-old Labrador retriever, is an energetic boy who came to Atlanta from a shelter in New Orleans shortly before Hurricane Gustav hit. He is a smart guy and already knows the commands “sit” and “lie down.” Marley needs to be an indoor dog and should be outside only under supervision, at least for a while.
